1. Applicable vessels
All vessels calling at the Port of Dampier that use an accommodation ladder in a suspended condition without landing on the quay or berth.
2. Background
To enhance the safety of personnel transferring between ships and shore, Pilbara Ports has mandated the installation of Secondary Means of Support for accommodation ladders used in a suspended condition under Local Marine Notice D13 2026. Accordingly, from 1 January 2027, all applicable vessels calling at the Port of Dampier shall be fitted with an engineered and class-approved secondary means of support.
3. Guideline
To assist shipowners and operators in complying with this requirement, Korean Register has prepared guideline relating to the selection, approval, installation, survey and operation of secondary support arrangements. Shipowners andoperators are kindly requested to review the information above and refer to the attached guideline for further details.
