(2026-IMO-03) Guidance on required actions in anticipation of the entry-into-force of the 2012 Cape Town Agreement.

This technical information has been prepared in view of the fact that, following the prolonged absence of international safety standards for fishing vessels due to the delayed entry into force of the Torremolinos International Convention for the Safety of Fishing Vessels, 1977 and the Torremolinos Protocol of 1993, the Cape Town Agreement of 2012-adopted with more practicable entry-into-force requirements-has recently met the conditions for entry into force and its date of entry into force has been fixed.

 

It is hoped that this technical information will serve as a useful reference for understanding the background of the Agreement and for its effective implementation.
