I am Yong-Sok Lee, Chairman of the Korean Register (KR).

KR is a full member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS), responsible for ensuring the safety and quality of ships. Acting on behalf of more than 80 governments worldwide, including the Republic of Korea, KR conducts statutory surveys and operates a global network with offices in over 70 major cities, including New York, London, Tokyo, and Shanghai. With this global presence, KR is committed to the sustainable development of the maritime industry and the enhancement of its global competitiveness.

Amid rapid changes in the international maritime environment and paradigm shifts in technology, KR seeks to promote the following key strategic priorities in order to lead the global maritime industry and contribute to maritime safety.

First, we will make every effort to enhance ship safety and strengthen international credibility.
Through rigorous surveys and certification in full compliance with international conventions and classification rules, we will contribute to the safe operation of ships and the prevention of marine accidents, while ensuring that KR’s technical excellence and reliability are recognized as global standards.

Second, we will take the lead in eco-friendly and digital technologies.
By proactively responding to changes in the international maritime environment—such as decarbonization and maritime AI technologies—we will expand research, development, and technical support for environmentally friendly ships, alternative fuels, and energy-efficiency technologies. In addition, through digital transformation and smart ship technologies, we will enhance the future competitiveness of the maritime industry.

Third, we will enhance customer value through strengthened technical capabilities.
Based on accumulated technical data and highly skilled professionals, we will provide customized technical services and serve as a reliable technical partner for shipping companies, shipyards, and marine equipment manufacturers.

Fourth, we will build a globally sustainable classification society through open communication and mutual growth.
We will strengthen cooperation with domestic and international customers, governments, academia, and industry, and practice leadership based on shared prosperity. Furthermore, we will fulfill our corporate social responsibility and take the lead in promoting a culture of maritime safety and contributing to society.
