KR Hosts Southeast Asia Committee and Technical Seminar in Singapore
13 Oct. 2025

Korean Register (KR) successfully held the Southeast Asia Committee and Technical Seminar in Singapore at the end of July, strengthening dialogue with the regional maritime community and showcasing its latest technical services.

Held annually in Singapore, a key hub for shipping and logistics in Southeast Asia, the event serves as a platform to share regulatory updates, address industry challenges, and foster closer technical cooperation with local stakeholders.

This year’s seminar brought together over 100 participants from across the industry, including representatives from Navig8 Group, Executive Ship Management, and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

Key sessions featured an economic analysis of the IMO’s mid-term measures and EU regulations, an introduction to KR-PILOT, KR’s digital platform for supporting tailored decarbonization strategies, and updates on biofuel-related regulations and technical issues. These sessions attracted strong interest from attendees.

The seminar also included presentations on global shipping investment trends by Maritime Strategies International (MSI) and port state control (PSC) updates and response strategies by Executive Ship Management. A networking reception followed, attended by more than 200 guests, including HONG Jinwook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Singapore, providing a valuable opportunity for open exchange.

On July 31, KR convened the Southeast Asia Committee meeting, joined by senior executives from major Southeast Asian shipping companies. The discussions focused on international regulatory developments and practical strategies for compliance.

LEE Hyungchul, Chairman and CEO of KR, stated, “Following the IMO’s approval of its mid-term measures in April, interest in developing effective response strategies has reached unprecedented levels. This event was a meaningful opportunity to share the latest regulatory insights and KR’s technical services, while listening closely to the perspectives of the Southeast Asian maritime industry.”
