KR Conducts HAZID Workshop for G-Marine Service PCTC Vessel KR held a HAZID (Hazard Identification) workshop as part of the Operational Assessment to evaluate the feasibility of Northern Sea Route (NSR) navigation for the G-Marine Service vessel GLOVIS SPRING. Based on realistic operational conditions, participants identified key risk scenarios related to navigation, communication, firefighting, distress response, and other critical areas, while discussing mitigation measures.
The Northern Sea Route is emerging as a next-generation strategic corridor in the global shipping industry. With climate change extending the navigable period during summer and enabling shorter transit distances between Asia and Europe, many shipping companies and shipyards are actively assessing its applicability. As a result, new technical requirements—such as structural safety in low-temperature and ice conditions, navigation and communication performance, and compliance with fuel regulations (including the ban on the use and carriage of HFO)—are becoming increasingly important across the industry. This workshop served as an important opportunity to strengthen cooperation with G-Marine Service and Hyundai Glovis and to enhance technical capabilities for NSR operations. KR will continue to work closely with shipping companies, shipyards, and classification societies to secure expertise and technological readiness in polar navigation, further reinforcing KR’s competitiveness.
