Technical Training on Wind Power Successfully Organized by KR
29 Jun. 2023

KR organized the Wind Power Technology Training on May 11-12 at the KR International Education and Training Center.

As the global shift to green energy accelerates, the South Korean government and local governments are promoting offshore wind projects in Ulsan, Donghae and Jeju as part of their green energy policies to promote the offshore wind industry and utilize it as a future energy source.

While global companies with extensive experience and numerous projects currently dominate the offshore wind industry, domestic companies are also making significant efforts to establish a diverse track record. These companies aim to showcase their cutting-edge technology in offshore floating structures, which includes leveraging their expertise in shipbuilding.KR organized the "Wind Power Technical Training” program to support the competitiveness of these companies in offshore wind technology and to share the latest trends in the industry. More than 80 participants from Korean state-owned enterprises, HD Hyundai Electric, Hyundai Engineering & Construction, Taihan Cable & Solution, Unison, Northland Power, domestic and foreign wind power developers, and academia attended the training, showing a high level of interest in offshore wind power technology and business.

The training program consisted of a total of 11 lectures and provided an overview of the technologies required to develop offshore wind farms, including the wind certification system, wind farm siting and feasibility studies, offshore wind system design and evaluation, wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs), and offshore construction regulations.

As a result of the ongoing large-scale offshore wind power projects in Korea, there has been a significant demand for domestic companies to provide offshore wind power technology. However, there has been a shortage of relevant professional training in this field. KR has addressed this issue by conducting training programs, which have been met with high satisfaction from offshore wind farm operators and stakeholders.
