Reflecting on Rightship’s extensive inspection questionnaire. Expected to be a useful guide for bulk carrier operators
KR has published a 「Guidelines for Rightship Inspection」 for ship operators and seafarers operating dry bulk vessels.
Rightship is an organization of bulk cargo majors established in 2001 to transport cargo in a timely and safe manner by selecting ships with high stability when signing a charterparty.
Recently, Rightship developed an inspection questionnaire (RISQ, Rightship Inspection Ship Questionnaire) and is applying it to on-site ship inspections. Until early 2023, shipowners and ship inspection companies were able to choose RISQ-applied ship inspections, but in the future, an inspection method using RISQ is expected to be applied fully.
The recently developed RISQ contains a vast amount of information (about 170 pages) compared to the existing inspection method (about 20 pages of inspection reports). In addition, by benchmarking elements of the SIRE (Ship Inspection Report Program), shipping managers and seafarers operating bulk ships without oil major inspection experience are expected to have some difficulties preparing for the inspection.
In order to reduce the burden of bulk carriers and seafarers preparing for the Rightship inspection and to support safe ship operation, KR has published guidelines containing the new contents of the latest RISQ.
It is expected to be a more practical guide for seafarers as it includes key points that can be applied to various situations on ships, as well as essential inspection documents and on-site photos.
YOON Boogeun, Executive Vice President of KR Survey Division, said, “As Rightship's RISQ is applied to on-site inspections, shipping companies and seafarers are having difficulties undertaking inspections. I hope the newly released guidelines would be much help to our KR customers to prepare for their Rightship inspection.”
The published guideline is available at www.krs.co.kr.
