Strengthening Cooperation with the Northern European Maritime Industry:

Sharing Decarbonization and Digital Technology Strategies

KR held its 1st KR North Europe Committee and Technical Seminar in Hamburg, Germany, from May 20-21, officially launching a committee of leading figures from the region's maritime industry while showcasing KR's next-generation capabilities and reinforcing its global standing.

The technical seminar on May 20 drew some 60 representatives from the Northern European maritime industry. KR presented on several key issues facing the sector, including the status of its business and technical activities, an analysis of greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts following the 84th session of the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), its AI-based maritime service platform KR Marinote.AI, its decarbonization decision-support platforms KR PILOT and POWER, and strategies for decarbonizing existing container ships. In a following expert session, Henning Gramann of GSR Services addressed the Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM) for ship recycling and related regulatory developments.

An opening ceremony for KR's North Europe and Hamburg branch office followed, drawing some 150 industry figures to a reception that paired a Korean-themed buffet with a classical music performance.

The next day, May 21, the KR North Europe Committee (KRNEC) convened, bringing together more than ten senior executives from major Northern European shipping companies and related industries for in-depth discussion of international maritime regulatory developments and industry response strategies. Mr Guido Försterling, Member of the Board of Sloman Neptun Schifffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft, was appointed the Committee's inaugural Chairman and will lead it in the years ahead.

KR Chairman & CEO Lee Yongsok said, "Since taking office earlier this year, I have pursued the strengthening of cooperation with partners in key regions as a core priority, and the establishment of the KR North Europe Committee is an important milestone on that journey. I hope the candid and constructive views shared at the Committee will contribute to improving customer service and to the sustainable growth of the global shipping industry.”
