On February 24, the Korean Register (KR) announced the matters reported, including financial statements, and approved the draft closing report for 2025 as well as the appointment of three new full-time executives at its Annual General Meeting. KR reported that it recorded revenue of KRW 206 billion and a registered fleet of 90.35 million gross tons last year, driven by proactive business development activities and an increase in newbuilding survey assignments. Among the vessels newly registered with KR last year, 71% were owned by overseas shipowners, demonstrating the continued expansion of KR’s technological capabilities and international credibility.
At the General Meeting, the proposal to appoint new full-time executive officers as part of a new management structure was also approved.
Three individuals were newly appointed as full-time executives: KIM Seongjoo, Head of the China Headquarters; YEON Kyujin, Head of the Plan Approval Center; and Charles Choi, Head of the External Affairs Department. As executives, they will oversee the Survey Division, Technical Division, and Business Division, respectively.
Executive Vice President KIM Seongjoo, who will lead the Survey Division, joined KR in 1995 and has built extensive field experience and expertise in the survey sector through various roles, including serving as chief of the Ningbo Branch, Yeosu–Gwangyang Branch, the Survey Team, and the China Headquarters.
Executive Vice President YEON Kyujin, who will oversee the Technical Division, began his career in ship design at a shipyard before joining KR in 1996. He has since played a pivotal role in ship plan approval and technical operations, serving as Head of the Hull Technology Team, the Liquid Cargo Ship Team, and the Plan Approval Center.
Lastly, Executive Vice President Charles Choi, who will lead the Business Division, joined KR in 2000 and has contributed to the expansion of KR’s global business and international cooperation. His notable positions include leadership roles in the Business Promotion Team, Overseas Marketing Team, International Relations Team, and the External Affairs Department.
Meanwhile, CEO LEE Yongsok also implemented a reassignment of executive roles as part of management innovation efforts, marking a new beginning for the organization.
Executive Vice President CHOI Wonjoon, who had overseen the Administration Division, has been reassigned as Senior Executive Vice President in charge of the Strategic Planning Division, while Senior Executive Vice President YOON Sungho, previously responsible for the Strategy Division, will now serve as Executive Vice President overseeing the Administration Division.
Chairman LEE stated, “Despite the changing environment marked by increasingly stringent global environmental regulations and the digital transformation of the maritime industry, KR continues to achieve sustainable growth based on its technological competitiveness and the trust of its customers.” He added, “KR remains committed to cooperating closely with the government and related organizations in the maritime sector through field-oriented management and open communication, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the maritime industry.”
