KR Signs MOU to Promote Digital Transformation in the Maritime Industry

On 5 September, KR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Promoting Digital Transformation in the Maritime Industry with four leading marine digital solution providers — Lab021, marineWorks, mapsea, and Avikus — at KR’s headquarters in Busan.


As global decarbonization regulations and digital transformation accelerate, there has been a sharp increase in demand for advanced digital solutions to support efficient ship operations and compliance with environmental regulations.

In response, KR plans to strengthen its strategic partnerships with key maritime software providers to support customers’ digital transformation efforts and enhance the overall competitiveness of maritime industry.

Under the agreement, KR and its partners will expand cooperation in various areas, including:

  • Development and application of maritime digital solutions and data platforms,
  • Joint research on smart, autonomous, and eco-friendly technologies,
  • Exchange of digital technologies to enhance maritime safety, environmental protection, and operational efficiency, and
  • Collaboration in business development, marketing, and public relations activities.
Each participating company brings unique strengths to the partnership:

  • Lab021 – Solutions for optimized vessel operation and compliance with environmental regulations
  • marineworks – Customized systems for electronic charts and fleet management
  • mapsea – Marine big data analytics and real-time navigation services
  • Avikus – AI-based autonomous ship navigation technologies
  • Through these collaborations, KR aims to connect and support its customers in selecting and utilizing digital services tailored to their specific operational needs.
YOON Sungho, Executive Vice President of KR, emphasized the importance of cooperation, stating:
