On July 24, Korean Register (KR) hosted a joint seminar with the Republic of Korea Naval (ROKN) Logistics Command at KR’s Busan headquarters, focusing on strengthening quality management of naval supplies. The seminar, held as part of the two organizations’ regular exchange program, brought together over 30 senior officials to discuss critical issues essential to the safety and reliability of naval operations. Key topics included seaworthiness certification of naval vessel, quality assurance service, and damage recovery.
Participants shared insights on the background of introducing the seaworthiness certification system and its operational plan, highlighting the need for frameworks and standardization. They also agreed that the system is vital for ensuring the safety and reliability of naval operations, underscoring the importance of civil-military cooperation for its successful implementation.
Discussions also covered the need to strengthen quality assurance standards and procedures to verify vessel performance, reaffirming that advanced survey systems and stronger quality management are vital to operational readiness. Participants also highlighted the importance of technical cooperation with classification societies and the establishment of scientific criteria to ensure naval safety.
KIM Sangsoo, Head of KR’s Naval Business Center, said, “Through close cooperation with the ROKN Logistics Command, KR will continue to support quality innovation and the advancement of the seaworthiness certification system for naval vessels.”
