KR has published a new technical report on Fuel Cell Systems in Maritime Applications, providing guidance to support the safe and efficient design of fuel cell-powered vessels.

As the shipping industry accelerates efforts toward decarbonization, hydrogen is drawing attention as a clean energy source that produces no greenhouse gas emissions. In particular, fuel cells are regarded as a promising technology with potential for improved durability and reduced production costs compared to conventional engines or generators.

However, due to high reliance on overseas technologies and limited access to technical information, many domestic small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) continue to face difficulties from the early design stages of fuel cell vessels.

To address these challenges, KR’s Alternative Fuel Technology Research Team developed this handbook to provide practical technical guidance and reference materials for stakeholders involved in the design and development of fuel cell-powered ships. By enhancing accessibility to key technical information, the handbook aims to promote broader adoption of fuel cell systems and support the growth of Korea’s fuel cell vessel market.
