Korean Register (KR) has awarded an Approval in Principle (AIP) to HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for its newly developed “Double Head Side Protector,” a lashing assistant cargo safety device designed to improve the safety of container stowage.
The device is installed on the side corners of vertically stacked containers located at the outermost edges of ships, providing additional support independently of conventional lashing systems. It reinforces the connection between containers and the lashing bridge, minimizing the risk of collapse caused by rough sea conditions and severe weather. Furthermore, built with a combination of high-strength composite materials and steel, the device is engineered to withstand the substantial loads of multi-tiered container stacks.
KR expects that this newly developed lashing support and cargo safety device will offer an effective solution to the persistent issue of container loss and help mitigate the risk of marine pollution. KR remains committed to providing technical support to enhance container ship safety and protect the maritime environment.
