Dear Distinguished KR Partners, As we welcome 2025, I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude for your continued support and share my best wishes for a prosperous new year.
The global maritime industry is undergoing rapid transformation, with decarbonization emerging as an urgent priority and digital innovation reshaping how we address key challenges. Amid these changes, KR has remained steadfast in prioritizing our clients, driving progress through innovation, and fostering collaboration.
In 2024, KR achieved several significant milestones. At our engine testing center, we successfully completed initial tests of a four-stroke ammonia-fueled engine in collaboration with domestic engine manufacturers, advancing alternative fuel technologies.
We also made progress in field testing Onboard Carbon Capture and Storage systems in partnership with industry leaders, paving the way for practical carbon reduction solutions. In addition, by validating the fuel-saving performance of Energy Saving Devices, we empowered our clients to stay ahead of environmental regulations while enhancing operational efficiency.
KR’s technical expertise continued to deliver meaningful advantages for our clients. Notably, we identified and corrected calculation errors in the IMO's Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII). Through detailed documentation submitted to the IMO, we successfully resolved inaccuracies affecting large bulk carriers and PCTC vessels, ensuring fairness and delivering significant benefits. Furthermore, we played a pivotal role in revising the IGC Code, enabling LNG carriers to operate more economically with increased cargo capacity.
Looking ahead to 2025, KR will continue to evolve and elevate our services through advanced AI transformation guided by KR’s AI Grand Plan.
We plan to integrate AI capabilities into KR-CON and KR Rules, while also developing an AI-powered drawing approval system to enhance operational efficiency for our clients.
In the environmental sector, we are introducing digital tools to assist shipping companies in optimizing eco-friendly fuel choices, ensuring more diverse and expedited service delivery.
At the same time, as interest in nuclear-powered vessels grows, KR will actively collaborate with the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI) and conduct joint research with the Nuclear Energy Maritime Organization (NEMO) to prepare for the next generation of technologies.
As we embark on another year, I wish you and your organizations joy, health, and success in 2025. Let us continue to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities in the maritime industry together, building a more sustainable future for all.
