KR convened a KR Hellenic Committee (KRHC) two-day meeting and technical seminar in Athens, Greece from 24 to 25 October.
Every year, KR has been hosting KRHC meetings and technology seminars to share the latest technology trends and discuss major issues with Hellenic regional maritime leaders.
On the 24 October, 60 shipping companies, shipyards and academics from the maritime industry in Greece and the surrounding areas attended the first technical seminar event. During the seminar, presentations on green & smart ship newbuilds, EEXI & CII, the authentic green house gas management system 'KR-GEARs' and KR’s latest decarbonization and digital research achievements were presented, receiving widespread appraisal from those in attendance.
About 30 KRHC members attended the meeting on 25 October and discussed the appropriate responses to environmental regulations. Dimitrios Vastarouchas, Technical Director of Danaos Shipping, a Greek shipping company, presented research and evaluation results associated with carbon intensity (CII) – an important highlight of the meeting.
KR Hellas Night was held following the meeting, attended by over 250 people from the maritime industry, including Lee Jung-il, the ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Greece and a member of the KRHC.
Ambassador Lee requested support for Busan's bid to host the 2030 World Expo, stressing the coastal city as a strong candidate for the 2030 World Expo, explaining: “Busan is Korea’s second largest city, the maritime capital, and the world’s second-largest transshipment port.”
KR Chairman & CEO Lee Hyungchul said:
“The maritime industry is facing a time of decarbonization and digital transition. KR will do our best to support our customers to respond to the changing times by securing decarbonization and digital technologies.”
