KR published Tech. doc. of "Metal Material Selection Guide for Alternative Fuel Containment Systems for Ships".

The International MaritimeOrganization(IMO) adopted the Initial IMO GHG Strategy for reducing GHGemission from ships at the 72nd Marine Environment Protection Committee(MEPC)held in April 2018. As part of this Initial IMO GHG Strategy, the 76th MEPCmeeting in June 2021 decided to introduce EEXI, a technical measure, and CII,an operational measure, as a short-term measure to achieve carbon intensityreduction targets. As a result, interest in various alternative fuels such asammonia, biofuels, methanol, and hydrogen is increasing, and hydrogen is rarelyused in ships, so a lot of technical understanding is needed.

To help customersunderstand the metal materials used in various alternative fuel containmentsystem, including hydrogen, the Korean Register has published the Guideline forSelection of Metallic Materials of Containment System for Alternative Fuels forShips, so please refer to this guideline.
