    EEXI Introduction
    • IMO adopted amendments to MARPOL Annex VI at the 76th session of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) held in June 2021. Accordingly, ships of 400 gross tonnage and above engaged in international voyages shall comply with the Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) as a technical measure to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and a new International Energy Efficiency (IEE) Certificate should be placed onboard. The amendments to MARPOL Annex VI are expected to enter into force on 1 November 2022, with the EEXI requirements coming into effect from 1 January 2023.

    HOW CAN KR ASSIST
    • Korean Register (KR) has developed a web-based EEXI calculation program. This program has been updated to reflect amendments at the 75th and 76th sessions of the IMO's MEPC. User manual and demonstration video are provided, and it is free to use for KR customers. KR provides customized technical services to enable its shipping company clients to adopt the most beneficial countermeasures for their individual vessels, such as exactly how much engine power limitation and reduction in ship speed are required. KR is also collaborating with specialised engineering companies in related fields, such as energy saving devices, in order to enable shipping companies to receive more specialized technical support. Furthermore, KR will support customers by providing a comprehensive guide for compliance with the decarbonization regulations, developing EEXI/CII response manuals and running training seminars.
