The changes to the quality management standard, ISO 9001, have been based on consultation with a sample of 350,000 users. The major findings of this research were: ISO 9001 is increasingly being used in the service sector, the ISO 9001:1994 standard is not particularly "user friendly", it is not compatible with the increasingly used ISO 14000 series.
The changes to the standard have taken into account the above findings and allow organizations to focus on the processes that are essential to their operations.
The new standard is process model based and has been developed using a core set of eight quality management principles, developed by ISO, which act as a common foundation for standards relating to quality management. These are: |
