KR Releases 10th Issue of KR Decarbonization Magazine
23 Jul. 2025

Korean Register (KR) has released the 10th edition of its KR Decarbonization Magazine. Launched in 2022, its flagship publication has offered key insights into global decarbonization technologies and evolving regulatory trends to industry stakeholders.

The latest issue highlights key outcomes from the 83rd session of the IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC 83), where mid-term measures including a fuel-intensity-based carbon levy were approved. The adoption of the IMO Net-Zero Framework marks a turning point in global efforts toward maritime decarbonization.

In the interview section, Semi Kim, Leader of Green GT Development Team at Hanwha Power Systems, provides expert perspectives on the potential of ammonia-fueled gas turbines in light of the newly approved mid-term measures. While concerns over thermal efficiency and toxicity remain, the interview outlines strategies to address these challenges, positioning ammonia as a next-generation solution.

Song Kanghyun, Head of Decarbonization & Ship R&D Center at KR, commented:
“The IMO’s approval of the Net-Zero Framework signals the beginning of a new era. With much of the regulatory uncertainty resolved, the industry must now move from preparation to execution.” He added, “KR will continue to guide and support our partners in navigating this historic transition.”

The KR Decarbonization Magazine is published in both Korean and English and is available on the official magazine website.
