Korean Register (KR) participated in the 14th International Maritime Defense Industry Exhibition (MADEX 2025), held from May 28 to 31 at BEXCO in Busan, Korea.
As Korea’s only dedicated maritime defense exhibition, MADEX brought together over 15,000 participants from more than 20 countries, serving as a key platform for global defense cooperation.
At MADEX 2025, KR showcased its Naval Vessel Safety Assurance Program (NSAP), a comprehensive lifecycle-based inspection and certification service for naval and coast guard vessels. The program is designed to ensure the safety and survivability of naval assets across all stages, from construction to operation, maintenance, and decommissioning.
In addition, KR plays a pivotal role in developing naval classification rules and standards for the ROK Navy and Coast Guard, serving as a hub for collaboration among the military, industry, academia, and research institutions. Notably, KR jointly developed the world’s first design guidelines for military unmanned surface vehicles (USVs), initiating the transition to an integrated manned–unmanned maritime combat system.
KR is also actively involved in major newbuilding projects, including the construction of KSS-III submarines. Beyond new construction, KR performs safety assessments and overhaul inspections for aging naval ships and submarines, supporting long-term operational performance and positioning itself as a reliable partner in MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) project.
On the global front, KR has supported naval export projects in cooperation with shipyard and equipment companies, providing inspection and certification services such as frigates for the Royal Thai Navy, and submarines and patrol vessels for Indonesia. As an active member of the International Naval Safety Association (INSA) and the Naval Ship Classification Association (NSCA), KR contributes to the development of international naval safety codes, strengthening Korea’s competitiveness in defense shipbuilding.
KIM Sangsoo, Head of KR’s Naval Business Center, stated, “Leveraging over 65 years of ship classification expertise, KR is proud to advance the safety and reliability of the Korea’s naval fleet. We will continue to support the expansion of K-defense exports as a trusted partner.”
