KR Awards AiP to Navigation Assistant System, HiNAS SVM
24 Apr. 2024

On March 25th, KR granted an Approval in Principle (AiP) to the latest navigation assistant system, HiNAS SVM, developed by Avikus.

The HiNAS SVM system provides real-time video footage from multiple cameras installed around the ship, offering a 360-degree view to eliminate blind spots through Surround View Monitoring (SVM). By utilizing this system, operators can acquire essential information for navigating narrow waterways and docking, as well as receive intuitive contextual information in case of pirate attacks, enabling efficient crisis management.

Moreover, integrated with Avikus’s latest autonomous navigation system, HiNAS Control, HiNAS SVM serves as a unified system for autonomous navigation and docking assistance, expected to reduce the fatigue of navigators and contribute to safer voyages.

HD Hyundai Heavy Industries identified and checked the factors and constraints to be considered when applying HiNAS SVM developed by Avikus to ships. KR verified the design stability and suitability by reviewing domestic and international regulations.

The new navigation assistant system, HiNAS SVM to be applied to ships constructed by the HD Hyundai Group, not only detects obstacles around the ship but also accurately measures distances. It can significantly enhance maritime safety by aiding in navigation and surveillance against piracy or insurgent activities.

KR deeply values its role in creating ship applications for video-based navigation assistance systems through this AiP. KR will continue to provide technological support for the development of digital innovations in ships, including autonomous navigation systems.
