KR Chairman & CEO LEE Hyungchul was honored with the Shipping & Logistics Management Award at the 32nd Maritime Culture Award and 2024 Shipping & Logistics Management Award ceremony held at the Royal Hotel Seoul on 23 February.
The Korean Association of Shipping and Logistics and the Korean Association of Shipping and Port Societies selected Mr. LEE as the grand prize winner in recognition of his contributions to the development of KR and the status of Korea's maritime industry. His achievements include the milestone of surpassing 80 million tonnes of registered tonnage for the first time in KR's history. The Chairman & CEO focused on expanding global customers, establishing future strategies to enhance international competitiveness, and securing advanced technology, even amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Chairman & CEO's initiatives have significantly improved the safety of registered ships by upgrading the ship safety management system, leading to the highest safety rating in international PSC MoUs. Additionally, he introduced remote inspections and digitized inspection processes to enhance productivity and efficiency for customers.
Mr. LEE expanded investments to localize new technologies in preparation for the decarbonization and digitalization of the industry. He actively shared the latest technologies within the industry to support the domestic shipbuilding and shipping market's effective response to internal and external risks and his efforts ensured that the interests of the domestic industry are reflected in international maritime policy through KR's engagement in global maritime organizations.
