The United Arab Emirates (UAE) have introduced a strict ship recycling regulation.
UAE flagged Ships, foreign ships of 500 GT or above entering UAE waters and ports after June 26, 2025, are required to have an inventory of hazardous materials on board, which, like the EU SRR, additionally includes the substances PFOS and HBCDD in IHM Part I.
The UAE SRR imposes stricter requirements than the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (EU SRR) by prohibiting not only beaching but also the landing method. Furthermore, it prohibits changing the flag of a vessel with the intention of disposing of it in facilities that do not meet the regulations.
