At Nor-Shipping 2025, Korean Register (KR) signed five technical cooperation Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with leading Korean shipbuilders—HD Hyundai Group, Hanwha Ocean, and Samsung Heavy Industries—marking a significant push toward future-proof vessel technologies and alternative fuel systems.

Korean Register (KR) has released the 10th edition of its KR Decarbonization Magazine. Launched in 2022, its flagship publication has offered key insights into global decarbonization technologies and evolving regulatory trends to industry stakeholders.

With the tightening of standards under the TMSA (Tanker Management and Self-Assessment)* program, tanker operators are now required to establish faster and more scientific response systems in the event of maritime accidents. In response, Korean Register has expanded its existing Emergency Response Service (ERS) to include the prediction of ship drift trajectories and oil spill dispersion paths, aiming to minimize damage.

The Marine Environment Protection Committee (hereinafter referred to as MEPC), its 83 session was convened as a hybrid meeting from 7 to 11 April 2025 to discuss a wide range of issues under the purview of the Committee.
