Measures to be taken where the EPIRB, VDR and S-VDR suitable for the latest IMO performance standards cannot be installed on board.

The International Maritime Organization adopted Resolution MSC.471(101), 493(104) and 494(104), amended IMO performance standards for EPIRB(Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon), VDR(Voyage Data Recorder) and S-VDR(Simplified Voyage Data Recorder). Although, according to these resolutions, the amended performance standards should apply to equipment installed on or after 1 July 2022 on board, until recently, it is found that there is no equipment approved according to these IMO performance standards in the market. In this regard, this classification society would like to inform the below measures to be taken where such new equipment cannot be installed on board through this technical information.
