(2010013/IMO) Infant lifejackets to be provided on passenger ships

This is to inform you again that infant lifejackets are to be carried on passenger ships on or after 1st July 2010 as follows in accordance with the amendment to SOLAS Reg. III/7.2.1. (see Technical Information No. 2006008/IMO)

1. Convention: Amendment to SOLAS Reg. III/7.2.1 adopted by Res.MSC.201(81) and MSC.1/Circ.1304

2. Applicable to: Required infant lifejackets to be carried on all passenger ships having PS certificate on or after 1st July 2010

3. Requirements:
(1) Infant lifejackets complying with the requirements of paragraph 2.2.1 of the LSA Code shall be provided:

1) for passenger ships on voyages less than 24 h, a number of infant lifejackets equal to at least 2.5% of the number of passengers on board shall be provided; and
2) for passenger ships on voyages 24 h or greater, infant lifejackets shall be provided for each infant on board.

(2) Infant lifejackets are for infants of less than 15 kg in weight and of less than 100 cm in height and to be marked with "INFANT" according to paragraph 2.2.1 of the LSA Code.
